Dennis L. Martire: A Modern Advocate for America’s Union Workforce

In today’s rapidly changing labor landscape, Dennis L. Martire has remained a steady advocate for workers’ rights and responsible labor leadership. Through more than three decades with the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), he has helped strengthen union representation while supporting policies and programs that create lasting opportunities for working men and women throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

Martire began his LIUNA career in 1990 as a member of Local Union #1058 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Drawing upon his own experience as a laborer, he developed a practical understanding of the challenges workers face on construction sites and other demanding workplaces. His initial role as an international representative focused on resolving jurisdictional disputes, allowing him to build valuable expertise in labor relations, negotiation, and conflict resolution.

His commitment and leadership abilities led to his election as Vice President and Mid-Atlantic Regional Manager in 2002. Since assuming this role, Martire has overseen union operations across multiple states while guiding organizing campaigns, labor relations, and workforce initiatives. His leadership has consistently focused on producing measurable improvements for union members through stronger representation, fair labor standards, and expanded employment opportunities.

Among his notable accomplishments is helping advance a prevailing wage law in Montgomery County, Maryland. The legislation established fair compensation standards for workers while contributing to safer construction sites and improved quality on publicly funded projects. In Virginia, he also supported laborers during the Route 495 Hot Lanes project as they organized and established their own local union, strengthening collective bargaining rights and long-term workplace protections.

Beyond these achievements, Dennis L. Martire continues to contribute to workforce development through service on numerous boards, trusts, and advisory organizations. His involvement helps shape labor policy, transportation planning, education initiatives, and workforce investment strategies that influence employment throughout the Mid-Atlantic.
